DESIDERIA

The installation was designed for the “Wonder in the Parks” competition, organized by Euroflora 2018 for the creation of exhibition spaces within the parks of Nervi, in Genoa.

It is in the nature of desire not to be able to be satisfied, and most men live only to satisfy it.

The driving idea of the project is based on the ancestral impulse to possess an object that is not ours, a garden understood as a desire to belong to something that allows us to rediscover our origins and our true intrinsic essence. Vasilij Kandinskij’s painting “Some Circles” is the inspiring model: the work recalls the planets that orbit in the universe according to the laws of mutual gravitational attraction, some of them more isolated than others that instead form consistent agglomerates.

The plan of “Desideria” reflects the ordered and organized chaos of the universe with its soft movement of expansion dictated by the open borders and never closed in a narrow space, with the path that graphicizes the Milky Way in whose internal and external borders orbit planets and stars eager to shine. At the center of the path there is a large dark circle, a black hole, to symbolize the desire to dominate life: here there is an arid area, where the dark gravel allows to act as a black canvas for the bright colors of the cacti positioned in it, to reiterate the concept that the desired life is possible and more beautiful even in the most hostile places. At the center, a dome shows off itself, a symbol of union between the two dimensions (dome as a celestial sphere and as a house desire for love).

Just as in the universe planets of all types exist and coexist, so on Earth plants of all types exist and survive: within Desideria are collected different, but not incompatible, needs, which not only symbolize the plants but also the desires of men, different in race, culture, religion and history, but all united by the desire for affirmation and survival.
